SDI outputs – Which one to use ? (French and English document) Since scopes are now 3G compatible, a passive loop-through is not possible anymore because at these frequencies the metallic continuity would represent a real antenna bringing a lot of interferences in the signal. The waveform monitor outputs are then all active and it means that without mains, no signal is available on these connectors. But there are many output connectors. So witch one to select and how to choose and to set the right one ?

UHD in WFM and WVR 8k (French and English document) All the oscilloscopes of the 8k series (even the very first units delivered in 2010) are now capable of measuring UHD signals and/or signals having a wide color gamut (HDR). To do so, it is necessary to add the suitable upgrade kits. Whatever is the selected kits, a Firmware upgrade is also needed and this is THE trick of the month.

The HD-SDI CRC’s – What a story ! (French and English document) It is well known, that in HD-SDI, each line has its own dual CRC control packet in order to check separately the luminance and the chrominance of a signal. It is less known how it works really. This note is giving the basic knowledge in order to understand the process involved in this technology maintaining the integrity of the data in a digital path. At the same time, it will explain a bit more the interest of the data display available in oscilloscopes.

Picture BRIGHT-UP Now that pictures are created for high resolution displays and sometimes with high dynamic range luminance curve, we often receive the question about how to monitor carefully the levels in a video signal directly in the picture. There many ways to measure that and some are well known: Luminance Vector display (see T&T N°109), Diamond display, Spearhead display (see T&T N°66). But there is a particular display for long long time, in all Tektronix oscilloscopes that allows to check very rapidly the level of luminance in the picture itself. This is the bright-up possibility that is switched off by default.
