UHD-4K SQD vs 2SI The Video industry is always trying to improve its level of quality. In this context, 4K UHD is now coming to our TV sets and the best example will be the next world cup in Russia in June that will be covered in 4K in all the stadiums and broadcasted to each country in its native format. 4K UHD requires 8 times more bandwidth than a regular HD signal. It means that 12Mbps are needed. If we remember the difficulties faced moving from SD-SDI (270Mbps) to HD-SDI (1,485Mbps), dealing with 12Gbps SDI could be considered as quite a challenge. Fortunately, for those now wanting to take any risk, some tips exist allowing well-known process, and a lot of broadcasters are using the 4 links 3Gbps technique. So, the signal is divided in 4 equal parts and transported on 4 different coaxial cables. Two modes exist for splitting the pixels, each of one with advantages and disadvantages.
